Zenith Poland Sirbaugh departed on her heavenly journey March 12, 2015 after 91 years of life. Born April 28, 1923 in Inkerton, WV to Bryan Carl and Della Weese Poland, she often expressed awe and appreciation for her parents raising three children during the Great Depression. Zenith was a graduate of Capon Bridge High School’s class of 1941, the yearly reunions for which she proudly attended through 2014.
After traveling by bus and train from WV to Kissimee, FL, she married Harry Gordon Sirbaugh on October 3, 1944. Together they shared fifty-six years until his passing in 2000. Zenith’s legacy is being carried forward by their children, Beverley Ridings (Dennis) and Alan Sirbaugh (Laura). Alan and Laura lovingly shared their home with her for the past nine years, enabling her to close her eyes for the final time in the care of those she cherished. Seven grandchildren (Megan, Morgan, Michelle (Scott), Crystal (Brandon), Mike (Jennifer), Jason (Amanda), and Ben have benefitted from her wit and wisdom. Eight great-grandchildren (Molly, Shannon, Wyatt, Beau, Madeline, Gracie, Emmy, and Sam) were a source of joy and laughter. In her twilight years, she came to value highly extended family members, sharing many stories with clarity of memory that amazed all who listened.
In addition to her parents and husband, Zenith was predeceased by her brother, Wesley Poland, and her sister, Wilda Malcolm.
Memberships in Old Bethel UMC and in Albin Homemakers’ Club were very special to Zenith, and she was a very vocal and active participant. If nothing else, she was a hard worker who would pursue any task at hand until it was complete. Each Fall found her avidly helping make church apple butter. Quilting was her avocation. Family members, friends, and acquaintances have been benefactors of her beautiful handiwork. We shall miss her.
The family will welcome visitors on March 19 from 1:30 3:00 at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. A celebration of Zenith’s life will follow at 3:00 with Rev. Dr. Victor Gomez officiating. A reception will be held immediately after the celebration at Old Bethel UMC. Interment will be at a later date.
