Zacarias R. Vasquez
Zacarias Raymond Vasquez, 87 of Winchester, Virginia, died Friday, December 24, 2010, in Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Vasquez was born in 1923, in Lima, Peru, and was a U.S. Citizen, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Ubaldo Vasquez. He was an Attorney. Mr. Vasquez was a graduate of the University of Columbia, South America, receiving a Doctorate of Law degree. He also had a degree in Management from the Cody Institute in Nova Scotia, Canada. Mr. Vasquez came to Puerto Rico on a University Exchange Program. He became a Professor of Law and History at the University of Puerto Rico and Inter-American University and later came to the U.S. He retired from the Department of Defense, Fort McNair and Fort Myer after 18 years in 1995 and moved to Leesburg and later to Winchester. While in Winchester, he taught History and Spanish at Shenandoah University and Lord Fairfax Community College. He also taught Spanish to the Winchester Police Department. Mr. Vasquez was a veracious reader and Civil War History expert. He loved music, sports and animals. He was a former fencer and gymnast.
He married Marguerite G. Gautier on March 28, 1978, in Arlington, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife are three sons, Leonel Vasquez of Silver Spring, Maryland, Edwin Vasquez and Alan Vasquez both of Lima, Peru; two sisters, Dionisia Vasquez and Francisca Vasquez both of Lima, Peru two brothers, Dr. Jose Vasquez, MD and Clemente Vasquez both of Lima, Peru.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Dr. Pablo Vasquez.
A Memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Thursday, January 6, 2011, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chape. Interment will be private.
