Winona Naomi (Grim) Smith
Winona Naomi Grim Smith, age 83, of Winchester, Virginia passed away on Friday, February 20, 2015, at her daughter’s residence.
Mrs. Smith was born in 1931, the daughter of the late Jesse Cornelius Grim and Alice Grim Dudley. She graduated Stephens City High School and worked as a sales associate in the specialty wears department of Leggett-Belk, retiring after 32 years of service. She was a member of Mt. Olive United Methodist Church and the Mt. Olive Women’s Group, “The Olive Oyls”, where she served as secretary for many years. She loved her church family as much as her family and enjoyed camping trips and vacationing in Cape Hatteras. She was a great cook and loved going to musical concerts.
Winona married Alvin Richard Smith, Sr. on February 26, 1949 in Stephens City, Virginia. He preceded her in death on January 30, 2008.
Surviving are her children, Alvin R. “Rick” Smith, Jr., Karen S. Massie (Tom), Brenda K Smith, Randall B. Smith (Monica), and Ronald L. “Buck” Smith; her grandchildren, Beth Shobe (Tony), Paige Williams (Karl), Jason Massie (Laura), Jessie Smith (Jason), and Joshua Massie (Megan); eight great grandchildren; step-grandchildren, Bessie Massie and Crystal Claycomb; and sisters, Ruth Wingfield, Patricia Dampman, and Janet van Balen.
A great grandson, Luke Williams, and her sister, Greta Pappas, preceded her in death.
The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 27, 2015, at Omps Amherst Chapel, with Pastor Victor Gomez officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Hayfield, Virginia.
