Willie Lea Omps Gano, 85, of Whitacre, Virginia, died Monday, March 23, 2015 at Winchester Medical Center.
Mrs. Gano was born in 1929 in Bloomery, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Raymond E. and Bessie G. Omps. She was a graduate of Capon Bridge High School, Class of 1948 and Shepherd College class of 1954 having received a Bachelor’s Degree. Willie Lea began her teaching career at the West Virginia School for the Deaf and Blind in Romney, West Virginia. She then taught in Frederick County Public Schools for 30 years, at Bryarly, Gainesboro and Indian Hollow Elementary. Willie Lea was a lifelong member of Bloomery Presbyterian Church and sang with the choir.
Willie Lea will forever be remembered as a breast cancer survivor and for her love of Schrock Bus Tours, Retired Teacher meetings, helping her brother Carroll at Omps Grocery and attending classes at the Wellness Center. She was a loving sister, mother, grandmother and friend to many and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She married Daniel O. Gano on July 17, 1954 in Bloomery, West Virignia. He preceded her in death on January 14, 1992.
Surviving are three daughters, Phena Godlove and husband, Russell, of Whitacre, Vicky Mounts and husband, Tom, of Cross Junction, Betsy Brumback and husband, Harman, of Winchester; son, Tim Gano and wife, Susan, of Whitacre; grandchildren, Jeremy, Jason, Stephanie, Sarah, Deanna, Mackenzie, Kyle, Josh, Eric, Layne and Greta; great grandchildren, Madelyn, Sawyer, Annabelle, Baby Spitzer, Patterson, Peyson, Harper and Conner; brothers, H. Jennings Omps, Ronald R. Omps, B. Wendell Omps and Carroll N. Omps.
Two brothers, Charles W. Omps and Ellis J. Omps, preceded her in death.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Pastor Tom Mounts and Reverend Ron Wilkes will be officiating. Interment will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, Frederick County, Virginia.
