William Shepard “Shep” Harris Sr, 85, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away at Winchester Medical Center on February 3, 2026, with his wife, Theresa, by his side. He was born on March 12, 1940, in Frederick County, to Sarah and Shepard Harris.
Shep grew up in Winchester and attended Douglas School K-12. He graduated from Douglas in 1958 and went on to Bluefield State College in West Virginia. He attended for two years and then came back to Winchester. He then went on to work as an orderly at Winchester Medical before deciding to join the military in ‘61. He served for 4 years and 4 months in the United States Navy as an Electrician.
Shep married Theresa in 1969, and together they had one son William Harris Jr. in ‘71. He retired after 30 years in 2002 from the General Electric in town as an Electrician. He spent most of his free time helping raise their one granddaughter Kaylee Corbin born in 2002. As he loved time spent with family and sharing memories and stories from his life with everyone.
Shep was preceded in death by his two brothers Bushrod & Richard “Josh” Harris and parents Sarah and Shepard Harris.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa; his son, William Shepard “Bubba” Harris Jr.; granddaughter, Kaylee M Corbin; and great-grandchild Emory Tokes-Lee Corbin. He also has three step-grandchildren, Aidan Ross, Avery Ross, and Alex Ross.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, from 6pm to 8pm with a time of sharing at 7pm at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 11am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Father Phillip Cozzi officiating. Entombment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum.
