William “Bill” McKinley Evans, 66, of Frederick County, Virginia passed away Monday, August 21, 2017 at Winchester Medical Center, after a prolonged battle with cancer.
Bill was born in 1950 in Austin, Texas, the son of the late Howard R. Evans, Sr. and Nellie M. Osbourne; stepson of the late Norman Osbourne. He was a graduate of Alameda High School in Alameda, California. Bill was retired from the United States Army and the United States Air Force serving during the Vietnam era, achieving the rank of TSG. His outstanding service to this country included being awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, Bronze Star, National Defense Service Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars. Bill retired from the military after 20 years of service and was employed as a Technical Installer with local communications companies. His greatest passion was motorcycles…..a true motorcycle enthusiast. Bill was a member of Ourea Demons (where he was known as “Pecos Bill”) in West Virginia, a member of DAV Post 9 in Winchester, Virginia; enjoyed collecting Budweiser steins, raising snakes to breed, and was an avid hunter. Bill was of the Protestant faith.
Surviving is a daughter, Tracie Evans-Turner and husband, Scott of Jonesboro, Arkansas; grandchild, Angel Redinger and husband, Nathaniel of Branson, Missouri; brother, Howard R. Evans, Jr. and wife, Barbara; and brother, David M. Osbourne and wife, Robbie.
Along with his parents and stepfather Bill was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie L. Evans, and his first wife and mother of his daughter, Sherrie Ann Cash.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 6 pm to 8 pm on Wednesday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with a Celebration of Life at 7 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Omps Funeral Home, 1600 Amherst Street, Winchester, VA, 22601, to assist the family with funeral expenses (write “Bill Evans” on the memo line).
