William G. Wolverton, Sr.
William Glenn “Bill” Wolverton, Sr., 85, of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania died Friday, April 18, 2014 in York General Hospital, York, Pennsylvania.
Mr. Wolverton was born in 1929 in York, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Rodney and Catherine Wolverton. He graduated from Handley High School, where he played football, and from Strayer University with a degree in Accounting. He was Comptroller for the American Institute of Architects. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps, having served during the Korean War. He received the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Japanese Occupation Medal and the Purple Heart. He was a member of VFW Post 3150 in Arlington, VA, where he was Quartermaster, and the American Legion.
He married Pat Wolverton on June 22, 1963 in Arlington, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife is a step-daughter, Karen Pearce of Alexandria, VA; a son, William Glenn Wolverton, Jr. of Marietta, PA; and three grandchildren, David Pearce and Madison Pearce, both of Alexandria, VA, and William Glenn Wolverton, III of Marietta, PA.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 10:30 – 11:30 AM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:30 AM on Friday at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with Pastor Alan Morrison officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Gary Wilson, Allen Ashwood, Vaughn Himelright, Dan Himelright, John Himelright and Randy Estep.
