Sara Ohlidal left a message on October 27, 2016:
Dear Melson Family, I send you my heartfelt condolences. I was saddened to read of Bill's passing in the Winchester Star newspaper. I worked at The Smithsonian Associates from 1997-2009. During that time, I had the good fortune to collaborate with Bill several times on educational outreach programs across the US, study tours in the DC region, and group visits to the Institution. It was always a pleasure to work with Bill; he was professional, good natured, helpful, communicative, eager to share information, and always had a sense of humor. Bill was missed by all in our department when he retired from the Institution. And Bill will be missed by everyone who knew him along the way on this great hike we call Life. With sincere sympathy, Sara Ohlidal
Dan Weir left a message on October 15, 2016:
My heart sank when I saw Bill's obit in the paper. Aside from just being pleasant to talk to it was always refreshing to me to interact with someone who's thoughts were based on many years of real world education and hard evidence. I wish I could have spent more time learning from him. You have my Number Judy if there is anything I can ever do for you. My thoughts are with you
