William “Bill” Francis Edmonson, 72, of Middletown, VA passed away on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at Winchester Medical Center surrounded by his family. Born on January 25, 1953, in Richmond, VA, Bill was the oldest of three sons born to the late William H. and Frances A. Edmonson, Jr.
An Air Force brat, Bill attended 13 different schools before graduating from Warner Robins High School in Warner Robins, GA. Some stops along the way included Panama, Okinawa and Ohio.
Bill graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) in 1975 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Bill obtained his first employment in the field of accounting with the firm of Hottel & Willis, P.C., which brought him to the Winchester area. A Certified Public Accountant, he transitioned to the private sector, working as the Vice President, Finance for The Henkel Harris Company, Inc. for nearly 30 years. He had a true passion for accounting and was still actively working in the field in various capacities.
Bill had a servant’s heart and was always willing to help anyone, expecting nothing in return. He served as Treasurer for several area churches over the years, served on the board for the Frederick County Sanitation Authority, was active in the Stephens City Lions Club for many years and served as a financial advisor and counselor to countless friends and family.
Bill loved the game of golf, was a die-hard Virginia Tech football fan, enjoyed trips to the Outer Banks and was a patriot through and through. Although he did not serve in the military, he took great pride in his father’s career service for the United States Air Force. Rarely did you see him without a flag pin proudly displayed over his heart.
Bill was his daughters’ biggest fan, supporting them in their careers, musical performances and always lending a helping hand and was very proud of the men they married.
Surviving are his loving daughters, Marcie G. Stern and her husband Chuck of Stephens City, VA and Kara E. Strosnider and her husband Matt of Strasburg, VA; brother, Robert A. Edmonson and his wife Machelle of Milpitas, CA; two cousins: Keith Fairly and his family of Center Cross, VA (whom he thought of as a brother) and Ronald Edmonson of Murphysboro, IL; and eight nieces and nephews. He is also remembered with love by his former wife, Teresa Edmonson of Stephens City, VA, who remained a beloved friend.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, John Peery Edmonson and cousin, Clifton (Clif) Fairly.
A visitation will be held for Bill on Thursday, February 27, 2025, from 5 pm to 8 pm at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
