William “Billy” Dunn, 66, of Amherst, Virginia passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2018, at Deerfield Home in Amherst, Virginia.
Billy was born in 1951 in Winchester, Virginia, the son of the late Wesley and Maude Dunn. Billy lived at CVTC for most of his adult life, and was the first resident of Deerfield Group Home beginning in 2015. Billy was an active, fun-loving person throughout his life. He participated in Special Olympics and bowling league. He enjoyed magazines, the outdoors, gospel and country music, internet shopping, playing cards and games, sitting in his recliner, and being the center of attention. He never had a problem making his presence known. Billy had a contagious laugh, a big bright smile, a quick sense of humor, and a sure sense of self-direction: he did what he wanted to do, and went where he wanted to go. Billy enjoyed dressing nicely, and loved wearing his hat and sunglasses any time he was going out. He always looked forward to his sisters and other family visiting, and bringing him special treats. They even threw him a huge 65th birthday party with about 30 guests, including extended family he hadn’t seen in years.
Surviving are sisters, Kay Meredith of Winchester, Virginia and Shirley Orndorff of Stephens City, Virginia; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Along with his parents, Billy was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Dunn.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 12 pm to 1 pm on Monday at Emmanuel Baptist Church with a funeral service to follow at the church at 1 pm with Pastor Steve Rebert, Sr. and Lead Minister Kevin Barton (great-nephew of Billy’s) officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Winchester, Virginia.
Memorial contributions may be made in Billy’s memory to Centra Hospice, 2097 Langhorne Road, Lynchburg, Virginia 24501.
