William D. White

William Douglas “Bill” White, 83, of Stephens City, Virginia died Monday, March 19, 2012 in Stephens City.

Mr. White was born in 1928 in Stephens City, the son of the late Howard and Elsie White. He was a dispatcher for Smith’s Transfer until his retirement. He was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church, the Antique Car Club of America, and the VFW Post 2123. He was a former member of the Stephens City Town Council and the Stephens City Volunteer Fire Department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served as a Staff Sgt. in the 39th Battalion Anti Aircraft Artillery.

Mr. White married Vera VanMeter White on February 12, 1955 in Frederick County, Virginia. Mrs. White preceded her husband in death on January 7, 1997.

Surviving is one daughter, Lisa Keller and husband, A.R., of Toms Brook, VA; two sons, Doug White and wife, Cathi, of Waldorf, MD and David White and wife, Pam, of Stephens City, VA; four grandchildren, Sara White of Cumberland, MD, Kristen White of Centerville, VA, and Lexi Keller and Olivia Keller, both of Toms Brook, VA; three sisters, Audrey Inskip, Marcella Ritter and Lois White, all of Stephens City; two brothers, Wayne White of Stephens City and Hugh “Jackie” White of Richmond, VA, and his close companion, Margel Hawkins of Stephens City.

Mr. White was preceded in death by four brothers, Elmer White, Leonard White, Lawrence White and Allen White.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. on Friday at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with Reverend John Lock officiating. Interment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Gore, Mitch Hoff, Larry Johnson, Gary Smith, Chris White, Scott Whitacre and Greg Ritter.

The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
