William D. Lincicome
William “Bill” David Lincicome, age 96, of Lancaster, Virginia, passed away on Friday, August 12, 2016, in Front Royal, Virginia.
Mr. Lincicome was born in 1919, in Urbana, Illinois, the son of the late Andrew J. and Harriett L. Lincicome. Bill graduated from Urbana High School in 1938. He earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Illinois in 1942. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he served as a Captain during World War II. He worked at the United States General Accounting Office as an auditor, retiring on December 31, 1974. He was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and uncle.
Bill was a member of the National Audubon’s Society and the Choral Society in Lancaster, Virginia. He loved the game of basketball and had participated in the sport since junior high school. He competed in the National Senior Olympics from the late 1970’s into the mid-2000’s playing horseshoes, table tennis, basketball and discus. He loved to garden, and he and his wife, Irene, canned and froze everything from asparagus to zucchini. He never hired anyone to do anything until he had tried it himself.
Bill married Irene Alexander, who preceded him in death in 2008. She was his bride for sixty-six years of marriage.
Surviving are a son, Steven C. Lincicome (Kristi) of Lake Frederick, Virginia; grandson, Andrew L. Lincicome (Jennifer) of Reston, Virginia; great-granddaughter, Riley J. Lincicome of Reston, Virginia; and a niece, Barbara Durrett of Tucson, Arizona whom he loved as a daughter.
Preceding him in death are two sisters, Inez Kinnear and Esther Hill, and four brothers, Arthur, Cecil, Paul and Richard Lincicome.
