William Clayton Vance, 94 of Chantilly, VA, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at his home.
Bill was born in 1930 in Harrisonburg, VA, the son of the late Olia “Davey” and Esther Vance. After graduating high school, Bill went on to serve our country in the United States Navy during the Korean War as a Musician Petty Officer 3rd Class. He graduated from the Navy School of Music, playing in the Navy band. Bill’s primary instruments were the French Horn and Piano. While in the Navy, Bill received the U.N. Service Medal, China Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the Navy Occupation Medal. After serving in the military, he went on to attend James Madison College (now University), studying music. He retired in 1996 from Associate’s Financial Company working in the Collections Department. After retiring, he worked in collections for Santee Trucking. Bill was an avid follower of politics.
He married Elizabeth McDonald on January 12, 1954, and she preceded him in death on Easter Sunday, April 23, 2000.
He is survived by his daughter, Terri Vance of Chantilly, VA, sister, Esther Gordon (Bob) of Harrisonburg, VA and brother, John Vance of Chesapeake, VA.
Along with his parents and wife, Bill is preceded in death by his sister, Anna Yancy.
A committal service will be held for Bill on Friday, December 27, 2024 at 1:00pm in the mausoleum chapel at Shenandoah Memorial Park, Winchester, Virginia.
