William “Bill” C. Lewis, 88, of Frederick County, Virginia passed away Monday, September 10, 2018, at Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Lewis was born in 1930 in Frederick County, Virginia, the son of the late Clifton and Nena Lewis. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean conflict, achieving the rank of Corporal. Mr. Lewis was a maintenance mechanic foreman with the National Park Service, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the VFW in Maryland and the American Legion in Winchester. Mr. Lewis was a kind soul who loved the outdoors. He enjoyed cutting wood and was an avid hunter. Most of all he was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and family, but would rarely reach out for help.
He married Carolyn Ruth Cloyd on April 11, 1959 in Frederick County, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife are sons, Ted Lewis of Gore, Virginia and Todd Lewis (girlfriend, Kelly Webb) of Frederick, Maryland; grandchildren, Michael D’Bois of Alaska and Katherine E. Lewis of Mt. Airy, Maryland; sisters, Stella E. Shade (Joe), Betty A. Wilson, and Nancy D. Grubb, all of Winchester, Virginia; brother, Donald L. Lewis (Sherry) of Stephens City, Virginia; and sisters-in-law, Patricia Lewis and Betty Lewis.
Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by sisters, Cathren V. Richards and Viola E. Feltner; and brothers, Robert L. Lewis and Linden E. Lewis.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 12 pm to 1 pm on Friday at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 2774 Northwestern Pike, Winchester, Virginia with a memorial service to follow at 1 pm with Pastor Steve Rebert officiating. A fellowship luncheon will follow the service at the church.
Honorary pallbearers will be Randy Feltner, Larry Feltner, Kevin Lewis, Terry Lewis, Denny Lewis, Eugene Lewis, and Don Lewis.
