William “Bill” Curtis Baker, 80, of Vienna, Virginia, passed away on April 18, 2024, in Vienna, Virginia. He was born on January 13, 1944, in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. Bill, known for his charismatic and generous nature, was a loving and loyal individual. He was also athletic and a good sport, traits that endeared him to many.
Bill is survived by his beloved spouse, Diane C. Baker, his sons Michael T. Baker (Brent W. Inscoe) and Mark W. Baker (Jenny), his brother James “Jim” M. Baker (Rita), his sister Betty L. Baker, his brother in law, Denny Carper, his nephew James “Curtis” Baker, and his nieces Tracey Carper-Garcia and Jennifer Peterson. He was preceded in death by his mother, Jessie A. Baker, father, Marion C. Baker and sister-in-law, Karen M. Carper.
Bill graduated from North Carolina State University and carried on with a successful career as an engineer at Newport News Shipbuilding and later as a Senior Vice President of ManTech International in Northern Virginia.
In his free time, Bill enjoyed visiting the Outer Banks for family vacations, spending weekends at Lake of the Woods with his wife, playing golf with his crew, baking brownies, indulging in late-night ice cream, spoiling the family’s pets, and maintaining a golf course-worthy yard at home. He also loved being on the water on a power boat and in his earlier days, playing league and pickup basketball.
A visitation to honor and remember Bill will be held on Thursday, April 25th from 11 am to 1 p.m. at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with food and fellowship to be served at that time in the Omps Reception Center in Winchester, Virginia. A graveside service will follow at 1:30 pm at Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
