William Anthony King, 81, of Stephenson, VA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center.
Born in Pittsburgh, PA, on June 17, 1942, Bill was the fourth of six children born to James King and Inez Tracey. Immediately after high school, Bill enlisted in the United States Army and became a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division (All American! All The Way!). Bill retired as a stone mason working for the Architect of the Capitol in Washington D.C. He was a member of the Elks, American Legion, and VFW here in Winchester.
Most everyone who met Bill found him likeable. He had a serious side that was tempered by humor, but arguably he was best known for his generosity. Bill would say that his greatest achievement was to marry Lorraine Evelyn Mancini on August 25, 1978. She preceded him in death on April 1, 2021.
Bill is survived by his son, John Curry, of Stephenson, VA; his older sister, Margaret Swain, of Cummings, GA; his younger brother, Paul King (and wife Judy), of Buffalo, NY; and many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and extended family.
He is preceded in death by his wife of more than 22 years; his older brother, James King; his older sister, Carol Murphy; and his younger sister, Mary Frances Davis.
A private celebration of life will be held for Bill in the upcoming weeks.
In lieu of flowers, Bill would appreciate donations be made to the Democratic National Committee.
