Wayne Curtis Benson, 78 of White Post, VA, passed away on Friday, September 22, 2023 at Winchester Medical Center.

Wayne was born in 1945 in Washington D.C., the son of the late, Bert and Julie (Zentoy) Benson. He was a graduate of Suitland High School in Suitland, MD and then went on to earn his Associate’s Degree. Wayne served our country in the Vietnam War in the United States Navy, during active duty his rank was SK3. He went on to retire from the Navy Reserve. During his civilian life, Wayne worked and retired as a Cartographer for the U.S. Geological Survey. He loved playing softball, golf and in his early years, playing duck pin bowling. Wayne enjoyed going out to eat and going to the movies, with his late wife, Carolyn, and especially spending time with his grandchildren.

He married Carolyn Jean Grigsby on November 23, 1968 in Washington D.C., she preceded him in death.

Wayne is survived by his daughters, Dena Ciepley (Kevin) of Stephens City, VA, Kimberly Daniels (Mark) of Martinsburg, WV; grandchildren, Kassidy Daniels, Payla Ciepley, Ilona Ciepley and great-grandchildren, Landon and Oakley Zizik.

Services for Wayne will be private.

We will miss Wayne dearly. He would come in and "Babysit" us in the afternoons when we were slower. He didn't want us to be lonely. We enjoyed his softball year book that he shared with us. We need more Wayne's in the world. He loved to talk about his wife, children and grandchildren. Prayers to all of you.

To the Benson family please know that Dave and I send our sincerest condolences. Wayne was such a dear friend and wonderful neighbor. We so enjoyed spending time visiting, movies and Dave's weekly lunch dates with Wayne! We will miss him sorely and remember him for his laughter and friendship.
