Wanda P. (Wolford) Scannell, affectionately known by all as “Nanna,” 89 of Winchester, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 19, 2026, in her home, surrounded by the love of her family.
Wanda was born on October 13, 1937, in Opequon, Virginia, the daughter of the late Ras Theodore Wolford and Mary Louise (Pitcock) Wolford. She attended James Wood High School and dedicated her life to caring for her family as a devoted homemaker.
On November 18, 1955, Wanda married the love of her life, Thomas Gene Scannell, in Washington, D.C. Together they built a warm and welcoming home until his passing on November 26, 2014.
Wanda was a member of Second Opequon Presbyterian Church and a former member of Women of the Moose #120. A talented seamstress, Wanda had a lively spirit and enjoyed playing Bingo and trying her luck at slot machines. Above all else, Wanda treasured her family; she was the best “Nanna” ever and cherished every moment spent with her grandbabies, great-grandbabies, great-great-grandbabies and fur babies, BaiBai and Bear.
She is survived by four daughters, all of Frederick County, VA: Melinda Hart (the late David), D’Ann Kenney (Kevin), Tommie Hobbs (Chuck), and Kelly Ricker (Jerry); 5 grandchildren: Jayson Music, Samantha Hart, Ian Kenney, Chad Music, and Kylie Ricker; 7 great-grandchildren: Trevor Hobbs, Brooklyn Canby, Gage Music, Jude Music, Sarah Kenney, Leland Music, and Rylynn Music; and 3 great-great-grandchildren: Maverick Canby, Iris Canby, and Reese Hobbs.
In addition to her parents and husband, Wanda was preceded in death by her son-in-law, David Hart; two sisters, Frances Wright, and Nancy Wolford; and her brother, Dennis Wolford.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 11am with a service to follow at 1pm at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor Doug Rinker. A time of food and fellowship will follow the interment at Round Hill Fire Hall.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Wanda to Blue Ridge Care, 333 W. Cork St., Suite 405, Winchester, VA 22601.
