Walter Vernon Fishel, 86, of Winchester, Virginia, died Friday, January 22, 2016, at his home.
Mr. Fishel was born in 1930, in Frederick County, Virginia, the son of the late Joseph H. and Vallia Thelma Fishel, Sr. He was a Veteran having served in the United States Army during the Korean War achieving the rank of PFC. Mr. Fishel was a scheduling clerk with Abex retiring after 36 years of service. Mr. Fishel was a member of Market Street United Methodist Church in Winchester. He was a past member of the Izaak Walton and Frederick County Conservation club. Mr. Fishel was also an active member of the American Legion and the Frederick County Senior Center (SAAA).
He married Dolores Helen Rush Fishel on December 21, 1951, in Winchester.
Surviving is his daughter, Janet Ryman and husband, Jim; granddaughter, Jennifer McDonald and husband, Jason; great grandson Justin McDonald all of Stephens City; 2 step-grandchildren; and 9 step-great grandchildren.
One sister, Catherine Fishel; brothers, Joseph Hampton Fishel, Jr., Carl Lewis Fishel, Ronald Lee Fishel, and half-brother, Kenneth Blakley Ashby, preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 6, 2016, from 10:00-11:00 AM, one hour prior to the service, at Market Street United Methodist Church.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 6, 2016, at Market Street United Methodist Church with Reverend Eric Song officiating. A reception will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall at the church. Interment will be private.
