Robert was born on February 11, 1925, in Frederick County, VA, to the late Ernest and Ella Jenkins. An active member of First Christian Church, Robert was a Deacon Emeritus and member of the Ray Blosser Sunday School Class. Robert loved to play the guitar and was part of the Country Strings Band until his early 80’s. The band often visited nursing homes to entertain the residents. In earlier years, he performed in numerous talent and variety shows to help raise funds for various charity projects. Robert had a nickname for everyone including his own nickname of “Stinky”. Robert retired from Ashworth Brothers in 1989.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Rogers Jenkins, whom he married on July 23, 1945, recently celebrating 70 years of marriage. Also surviving are his daughters, Patricia J. Snapp (Larry) of Frederick County, VA and Beverley J. Clark (Tommy) of Winchester, VA; two grandchildren, Regan E. Hollis and Robert W. Clark and three great grandchildren, Tyler W. Allamong of Frederick County, VA, Cody A. Clark of Frederick County, VA and Zane W. Clark of Frederick County, VA.
Robert is preceded in death by his parents and five sisters, Ruby Baker, Mary Burke, Ruth DeHaven, Hilda Hill, Thelma Shaw and brother, Franklin Jenkins.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with Pastor Alan Gray officiating. Entombment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum.
