Vivienne Lemar Jackson of Winchester, VA, passed away on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at the tender age of 97. She was born in 1926 in Winchester, VA, the daughter of the late Boyd and Ruth Jackson.
Vivienne was the owner of Ruth’s Tea Room in Winchester which was established in 1925 by her parents. She was a genteel woman of exceptional style. Vivienne had owned the tea room after her parents passing. She was the hostess and in charge of cooking. The tea room was known for its southern cuisine, most notably the chicken salad sandwiches, fried chicken, steaks and club sandwiches. The tables were always set with red and white table linens, and chocolate kisses. Vivienne hosted many celebrities over the years and was most fond of the youth that frequented the tea room. She would counsel them and educate them about good manners. Those visiting the tea room had the opportunity to meet her beloved boxers. Vivienne was very civic minded and belonged to several organizations, including CCAP, and Neighborhood Watch to name a few. She baked her famous cakes that she donated to auctions that bidders sometimes would pay over $1000.
Vivienne will be sadly missed.
Vivienne was a graduate of Frederick Douglas High School. She was a member of First United Methodist Church for more than 50 years and sang in the choir for over 40 years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, stepbrother, and her canine children, among them are Zeus, Baron and Solomon.
Honorary pall bearers will be Matt Harmon, Robert Dick, Brett Osborne, David Holliday, Thomas Kipps, Carl Rush, David Owens, James Riley and Josh Riley
A visitation will be held for Vivienne on Monday, April 22, 2024, at 1pm with a memorial service to follow at 2pm, held at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Officiating will be Pastor Sean Devolites.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Vivienne at Omps Funeral Home to help with final expenses.
