Virginia Catherine Jenkins Bowers, 86 of Winchester, Virginia, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Friday, June 25, 2010, at her son’s home in Stephens City, Virginia.

Mrs. Bowers was born in 1923, in Mathias, West Virginia, the daughter of the late William Beatty Jenkins and Julia W. Jenkins. She was a homemaker and a member of The Peoples County Church.

Her husband, Kenneth Eugene Bowers, preceded her in death on May 23, 1989.

Surviving is her daughter, Mary Ellen Bragg of Winchester, Virginia; her son, Donald Eugene Bowers and wife, Dana Ann, of Stephens City, Virginia; six grandchildren, Donald Bowers, Jr. and wife, Mary, Dawnette Jones and husband, Steve, Dustin Bowers and wife, Jeanine, Robert Bowers, Jr. and wife, Nancy, Shelby Middleton and husband, Tim and Shauna French and husband, Orrin, Jr.; and sixteen great grandchildren.

One son, Robert McKay Bowers, three brothers and three sisters, preceded her in death.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Tuesday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with Pastor Joseph Roby. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Donald Bowers, Jr., Dustin Bowers, Robert Bowers, Jr., Steve Jones, Tim Middleton, and Orrin French, Jr.

Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of The Peoples County Church, Charles Pine, Jr. and Jerry Mills.

The family will receive friends Monday evening, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W. Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, Virginia, 22601.

Sister Bowers was a wonderful Christian. She had a great ministry of sending cards, calling people,and most of all praying for people. She made each person feel like they were the most important person in her life. She will be sadly missed at People's Country Church but we are looking forward to seeing her again in heaven
