Virginia K. Fanning

Virginia Brown Kern Fanning, of Winchester, Virginia, died Thursday, October 28, 2010, in Winchester Medical Center.

Mrs. Fanning was born in Trone, Virginia, the daughter of the late Alva Homer and Florence M. Kern. She was a clerk with Southland Corporation retiring in 1982. Mrs. Fanning was a member of First Baptist Church in Winchester and the Eastern Star, McKinley Chapter # 19.

Her husband, Walter A. Fanning, whom she married in June of 1941 in Hagerstown, Maryland, preceded her in death in 1981.

Surviving are her daughters, Karolyn Sackett and husband, Michael, of Winchester, Virginia, Sandra Sperry and husband, Jack, of Cross Junction, Virginia and Patricia Timm of Winchester, Virginia; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and her sister, Anna Mae Woods of Fort Meade, Florida.

Mrs. Fanning was one of nine children, and is preceded in death by two sisters and six brothers.

A private family memorial service will be held at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 205 Piccadilly Street, Winchester, Virginia 22601.
