Psalm 27:1: "The Lord is my light and my salvation—whom shall I be afraid of?" Gigi you are my light in this dark time, I will forever miss you. My heart is heavy and broken, but knowing you are at peace brings me comfort. Thank you for being my guardian angel on earth and now in heaven. I will forever miss and love you!❤️

In accordance with my Gigi’s wishes, services were private, so I thought I would share my version of a eulogy here in her honor. It’s been extremely difficult to find the right words, and I still don’t think I have them, or ever will. But here it is… Hi, I’m Kaliope, Gigi’s (Vickie’s) first grandchild. Anyone who knew my Gigi well enough knows that she had an incredibly dark sense of humor, which I 100% get from her. In third grade, I remember my teacher wrote the word “sarcasm” on the chalkboard and explained to us what it was. Then a light bulb went off, and I was like, “Hey, I know that. It’s Gigi!” She was also SOOOO stubborn, which is definitely where I get it from as well, haha. She broke her foot or ankle, I don’t know, but she was in a boot. My mom told her, “Do NOT drive anywhere.” Keep in mind, this is the woman who cut a cast off her own arm. So anyways, she drives to Walmart and hobbles her way into the store. I convinced her to get an electric scooter cart, and we’re going around the store shopping when she cuts the corner too fast and rams right into a chip display. The entire thing came crashing down. It was sooooo embarrassing, lol. Gigi was more than just my grandma throughout my life. She was a second mom. She saw me at my absolute worst, best, and everywhere in between, but the love never wavered. She was the most genuine, kind, and selfless person I’ve ever met. She was too good for this world. I never had any anxiety or worry about coming to her with anything because I knew that no matter what the problem or situation was, she would have my back 100%. We had so many adventures together, especially when we would go on trips to DC. A funny story that sticks out is when we were helping my uncle decorate his client’s house for Christmas. We drug this giant-ass Christmas tree and garland into this house. There were pine needles EVERYWHERE. So yeah, it’s a mess, but we’re vibing and decorating, and in walks this man. He’s terrified and confused. He’s like, “Why did someone break into my house…but also decorate?” Anyways, long story short, it was a surprise that his husband had done for him, and things got straightened out, but yeah, it was wild, lmao. We had a lot of fun and interesting memories during our adventures to DC and other places that I could go on and on about. Her FAVORITE thing was listening to me sing show tunes in the car. I would loudly belt the lyrics to The Phantom of the Opera or Chicago, and she would just have a blast. She would especially crack up when it got to the line, “So I fired two warning shots…into his head. He had it coming!” I got my “independent woman who don’t need no man” attitude from her. She also had such a deep love for cats, and she passed that love down to me. I am so desperately going to miss being sent AI cat videos by her. She would’ve been so excited to learn about that new species of cat, too. When you have to say goodbye to someone you love so deeply, you don’t even know what to say. I remember I started reciting a song she helped me write for a project about Christopher Columbus in third grade. She always had my back, no matter what. It didn’t matter what it was. I could always rely on her. Our family might be small, but it is mighty. Every single one of us would’ve traded places with Gigi if given the chance. A part of me died the day that she did, and my heart has never felt this broken before. Everyone who knew her knows that she had a strong faith her entire life. God has always been a huge part of her life. She is one of the only people I can confidently say had read the Bible inside and out multiple times. And guess what? She lived by His word. She loved and accepted everyone. She had an open-door policy, and anyone and everyone was welcome. She was the embodiment of a true Christian. When we got word that she was actively transitioning to Heaven, it was late in the evening, but I just knew she wasn’t going to go then. One of her favorite Bible verses was Psalm 113:3: “From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD’s name is to be praised.” KJV I knew that not only would she wait to see and speak to everyone, but she also needed to see the sunrise one more time. I can’t imagine what life is going to look like without her. Right now, it’s too painful for me to even imagine. But I promised her, and I intend on keeping that promise, that we will all look after each other and stay together, no matter what. Even if she isn’t physically here, she’s still our matriarch and the glue holding us all together. Gigi, I know you loved me until your last breath, and I’ll love you until mine. It was so special that you were the first one to hold Chloe and me, and we were the last ones to hold you. I keep saying it… but you were too good for this world. While it’s unfair, I’m happy to have such an amazing guardian angel watching over me. ❤️🪽 Rest in peace, Vickie (Ates) Boutlier “Gigi”, until we meet again.
