Vernon J. Bogner
Vernon J. Bogner, went home to meet his Lord on Saturday, January 25, 2014, at the Blue Ridge Hospice Center, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Henry, Illinois, on April 26, 1934, the youngest child of Anna Irene Wallace Bogner and Elmer Anton Bogner. He graduated from Henry Senachwine High School. He received his BA in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois and pursued his MBA from James Madison University. Mr. Bogner served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and achieved the rank of Specialist 2nd Class. He worked for BF Goodrich Chemical in Henry, Illinois followed by 32 years as a Chemical Engineer at 3M Company in Middleway, West Virginia, Austin, Texas and Greenville, South Carolina.
Mr. Bogner belonged to The American Institute of Chemical Engineers, The American Institute of Plant Engineers, and the 3M Retiree Groups in both Martinsburg, WV and Arizona. He was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Winchester, Virginia and the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Judith Lancaster Bogner, whom he married in 1958.
They were blessed with five children, David Bogner of Tucson, AZ; Stephen Bogner and wife, Linda, of Inwood, WV; Daniel Bogner and wife, Peg Martin of Winchester, VA; Mary Lynn Bogner and husband, Ray Belford of Strasburg, VA and Amy Bogner-Hargrove of Winchester, VA.
He is survived by three grandchildren that he was so very proud of; Ethan Joseph Hargrove and Emma Kaitlyn Darr of Winchester, VA; and Sierra Laurel Bogner of Tucson, AZ. In addition, he is also survived by three siblings, Marie Cowan of Peoria, IL; Neil Bogner and wife, Eleanor, of Catonsville, MD and Rita Lauerman and husband, Tom of Chesterton, IN and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. His eldest brother, Laurence Bogner, preceded him in death.
A Service in Celebration and Thanksgiving for the Life of Vernon J. Bogner will be conducted on Saturday, February 1, 2014, at 11:00 AM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Reverend Stanley J. Krempa, Reverend Dr. Ken Patrick and Reverend Conrad Christianson, officiating. Interment will be private.
