Velma S. Ritenour
Velma Searles Carman Ritenour, 81, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Tuesday, January 22, 2013, in her home.
Mrs. Ritenour was born in 1931, in Woodland, Maine, the daughter of the late Robert P. and Rosie M. Searles. She was a homemaker and volunteered with many organizations. She was very active in the Girl Scouts for many years. Mrs. Ritenour was a member of First United Methodist Church in Winchester.
Her husband, Henry H. Ritenour, whom she married on September 25, 2004, in Rochester, New Hampshire, preceded her in death on December 22, 2007.
Her first husband, Philip Linwood Carman, preceded her in death on February 11, 1994.
Surviving are her daughters, Mary Davis and husband, Bruce, of Winchester, Patricia Buck of King William, Virginia, Donna Durrette and husband, William of Gaffney, South Carolina; sons, Philip Carman and wife, Patricia of Winchester, Peter Carman and wife Sheila of Clear Brook; step-sons, Steven Ritenour and wife, Kristy and Michael Ritenour and wife, Susie, all of Whiteville, North Carolina; 22 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; sister, Marjorie Pease of Rochester, New Hampshire; brothers, Sonny Searles of Sidney, Maine and Robert Searles of Knoxville, Tennessee.
Along with her parents and husbands, two daughters, Carol and Martha Carman; one sister, Maggie Russell and two brothers, Dennis Searles and Gordon Searles preceded her in death.
The family will receive friends on Saturday from 4:00-5:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 5:00 PM on Saturday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Reverend Will White officiating. Interment will be at a later date at Woodland Cemetery, Woodland, Maine.
