Vasco Van Guy’s Hof
On March 15, 2011, retired Frederick County Police K-9 Vasco retired again, this time to the Rainbow Bridge. Vasco was born May 20, 1997 in Holland. He came to the United States in 1998 to train in Pennsylvania with the United Schutzhund Club of America. Schutzhund is a dog sport developed in Germany to test whether German Shepherds exhibit the traits necessary to serve in police-type work.
In 2002, Vasco began his career with the Frederick County Sherriff’s Department and immediately took up residence with former Officer Kevin Bowers.
Vasco was crossed trained in many areas of K-9 work, including tracking, apprehension, area search for lost children and adults, and narcotics.
Vasco, as well as his K-9 officer counterparts, were and are an invaluable part of our community. Vasco received several Letters of Commendation, including one he received for tracking and finding a New York Most Wanted fugitive.
Vasco worked proudly until retiring in 2008 after developing Hip Dysplasia.
To K-9 Vasco – Our friend, please do us the honor of watching over all of us from above. Know that you will be loved and sorely missed by all who knew you, especially your companion and friend, Kevin Bowers.
A Service of Honor will be held for Vasco and all former K-9 Officers from Frederick County and Winchester on Sunday, March 27, 2011 at 3pm at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
We invite everyone to come and remember a special K-9 Officer that served our community with honor.
All Pets Cremation Center, a service of Omps Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
