Troy T. Liverman, Jr., age 85, of Frederick County, Virginia, died October 26, 2012, in Winchester Medical Center.
Troy was born on November 24, 1926 in Washington, D.C. to Troy T. Liverman, Sr. and Gladys G. Liverman.
Troy is survived by Nancy Liverman, his loving wife of 35 years, his son, Troy R. Liverman, of Plano, Texas, his step-daughter, Linda R. Megale and son-in-law, John R. Megale, of Frederick County, grandsons, Erik and Nathan Liverman of Dallas, and Little Elm, Texas, John A. Megale of Frederick County, and two great grandsons and two great granddaughters.
Troy is pre-deceased by two sons, John C. Liverman, USMC, K.I.A. Vietnam, 1968 and James E. Liverman, USMC.
Troy was extremely proud of his three sons and their service to their country. Troy was a WWII, 5th Division Infantry vet wounded in April, 1945. Troy Robert was an Army forward observer in Vietnam, wounded in 1968. John was a 3rd Division Marine serving with 2/4 and was killed in Vietnam in December, 1968, after being wounded twice previously. James, the youngest, also a Marine, died some years later. All four were volunteers. Their aggregate awards were three bronze stars and six purple hearts. Troy’s son-in-law, John R. Megale served with the Navy in Vietnam in 1968.
Jim Webb (later a U.S. Senator), and Navy Cross winner wrote a cover story on the boys for Parade Magazine in 2001.
Before moving to Winchester in 1979, Troy and Nancy worked for McDonald’s in middle management. Troy was a Field Service Manager and Nancy an Accounting Manager for 58 company stores in the New York region, where they met and married.
In 1979 they joined with John Megale, an Audiologist, and Linda Megale to move to Winchester to begin the Beltone Hearing Aid Centers. Grandson Johnny joined the company in 2005 after completing college at The University of Virginia and a Masters Degree at Clemson University. Beginning in a storefront on Valley Avenue, the business eventually grew to 13 locations in Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland.
