Toni Ladd Crane, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2026, at her home in Winchester, Virginia surrounded by her loving family. Toni was born on November 17, 1943, in St. Louis, Missouri. She was the daughter of the late Earl Ladd and Dorothy (Joseph) Ladd.
Toni married Neil Crane in 1966. Although their marriage ended in divorce, they remained very close friends and co-parents until his death in 2019. In 1993, she married Timothy Samut, who preceded her in death in 2015.
Toni is survived by her two daughters, Susan Eaves (Guy) of Boyce, Virginia, and Rebecca Regnery (John) of Germantown, Maryland; her grandchildren, Phoenix Eaves and Eira Eaves, both of Boyce, Virginia; her sister, Candace Ladd of Edwardsville, Illinois; and her nephew, James Burke (Karen) of Los Gatos, California.
In addition to her parents and husbands, Toni was preceded in death by her sister, Lesa Ann Ladd, in 1956, and her nephew, Andrew Burke, in 2019.
Family was always a central part of Toni’s life. Known as “Amma” to her grandchildren, she was always actively involved in their lives. She rarely missed one of their performances, games, activities, or school events.
Toni enjoyed a successful and fulfilling career as a Travel Director, managing and leading tour groups. Beginning in 1980, she led groups throughout the former Soviet Union, including on Trans-Siberian Railway journeys and Volga River cruises. She also guided trips through China following the Silk Road. Over the years, her career took her to Mongolia, the Baltics, and numerous other countries.
Outside of her career and family, Toni enjoyed reading, gardening, birdwatching, and music. Many who knew her remember her fondly for her caring nature and sense of humor. She also loved animals, sharing her home with many dogs and cats throughout her life, whom she considered part of the family.
A visitation will be held on Friday, June 12, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel.
A celebration of Toni’s life will take place on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 3pm to 5pm at The Glen Burnie House at The Museum of the Shenandoah Valley. The burial will be on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 11am in Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville, Illinois.
