Thomas H. “Bubby” DeHaven, Sr.

Thomas “Bubby” Howard DeHaven, Sr., 80, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Thursday, April 3, 2012, in his home.

Mr. DeHaven was born in 1932, in Frederick County, Virginia the son of the late Richard and Lena DeHaven. He was a supervisor with AT &T in Kernstown, Virginia, retiring after 35 years of service. Mr. DeHaven was a member of Little Mountain United Methodist Church.

Mr. DeHaven was a graduate of Stonewall High School, Class of 1950. He graduated from a class of 18 students (only 5 were boys). He played football, basketball, and ran track for 4 years. Mr. DeHaven earned 16 Varsity letters, the most in the school’s history. In 2002, James Wood High School Hall of Fame, honored Tommy DeHaven with a plaque for being selected one of Stonewall’s Best Athletes. He was the first person to receive this recognition from the 5 small High Schools that consolidated to become James Wood High School. Mr. DeHaven was an outstanding pitcher and was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals and played for the Brooklyn Dodgers.

He married Cheryl Lopp on June 3, 1983, in Hagerstown Maryland.

Surviving with his wife are four daughters, Brenda DeHaven Newcome and husband, Charles W., of Winchester, Donna DeHaven Orndorff of Clearbrook, Tina Crosen Wyatt and husband, Evan, of Winchester, Tara Crosen of Winchester; his son, Thomas H, DeHaven, Jr, and wife, Mary, of Hollywood, Florida; 7 grandchildren, Scott, Mike, Megan, Trenlia, Casey, Kelley and Brandon; 5 great grandchildren; sisters, Judy Kirby and husband, George, of Winchester, and Gail Price and husband, Danny, of Culpeper.

One daughter, Deanna DeHaven; son-in-law, Charles Orndorff and sister, Janet Cooke, preceded him in death.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Fishel, Scott Newcome, Mike Newcome, Jalen Newcome, Casey Orndorff, Al Murphy, Joe Hulver.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with Reverend Kathleen Work and Reverend Phil Brumback officiating, Interment will be in Little Mountain United Methodist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Monday, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
