Tom was born in Sterling, Michigan, on April 23, 1937. He married his beautiful wife, Wanda P. Wolford and on November 18th of this year celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four daughters, Melinda Hart (David) D’Ann Kenney (Kevin), Tommie Hobbs (Chuck) and Kelly Ricker (Jerry) all of Winchester; five grandchildren, Samantha Hart, Ian Kenney, Jayson Music, Chad Music and Kylie Ricker. He also had seven great grandchildren, Trevor Sulser, Brooklyn Harden, Gage Music, Jude Music, Leland Music, RyLynn Music and Sarah Kenney. He is survived by three brothers, Gordon Scannell, Ed Scannell, and Dean Reid, all of Michigan.
Tom is preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Scannell and Ronnie Lutz.
Tom served his country in the United States Air Force for 22 years. He was a Veteran of the Vietnam War, receiving the Bronze Star and was proud to fly the American Flag every day at his home.
After he retired from the Military, his next career was at Jefferson Distributing in Martinsburg, West Virginia. He was the “Beer Man” and after more than 20 years he retired to working in construction with his son-in-law for a short while. Then he retired to his flower beds and yard, where he could be found every single day.
The biggest joy of his life was his family. Nothing he loved better than to be surrounded by the family, the more the better. He was the life of any party, laughing, dancing and making everyone smile. Because he always said “Smile Every day. Every day you don’t smile, you lose that day”. He didn’t lose many days.
His pallbearers will be Calvin Thompson, Jayson Music, Chad Music, Ian Kenney, Trevor Sulser and Kyle Wright.
The family will receive friends on Monday, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Tuesday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. Interment with Military Honors will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Tom’s memory to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, Virginia, 22601.
