Thomas C. Gruenther

 

         Thomas Christopher Gruenther, 54, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Wednesday, February 25, 2015, in Frederick County.

 

         Tom was born in 1961, the son of Brigitta Gisela Gruenther and the late Donald Alfred Gruenther.  He was a graduate of Bishop Ireton High School and Virginia Tech where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.

 

Tom was a loving husband, father and friend to many. He married his college sweetheart, Peggy Graham, on July 24, 1982 in Richmond.  He was a loving father to daughter, Kristen Gruenther of Pittsburgh, and son, Max Gruenther of Richmond.  He will be forever remembered for his love of the great outdoors where he enjoyed countless hours hiking and enjoying nature.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

 

         Surviving with his mother, wife, and children are his sister, Lucy Maria Gruenther of Leesburg, and brothers, George Gruenther (and Mary Jo) of Iowa, Raymond Gruenther (and Beatrice) of Ohio, Frederick Gruenther of California, Peter Gruenther of Pennsylvania and Michael Gruenther of Maryland. One brother, Ralph Gruenther, preceded him in death.

 

         The family will receive friends on Monday, prior to the service, from 1:00 – 2:00 PM at Opequon Presbyterian Church, where Tom was an active member. 

 

         A Memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Monday at Opequon Presbyterian Church with Reverend David Witt officiating.  Interment will be private.

 

         Memorial Contributions may be made to the Blue Ridge Wildlife Center, P.O. Box 326 Millwood, Virginia, 22646 and/or Opequon Presbyterian Church, 217 Opequon Church Lane, Winchester, Virginia, 22602.

Tom was always there to help with the many projects we did together over the almost 30 years we lived next door to each other. It only took a phone call and he was there. I will miss the talks about our families and life in general we had while shoveling stone on the road. It is funny how much you confide in each other while working. Tom always had a smile and friendly hello whenever we crossed paths at the mailbox or walking around the pond. Couple of years ago I needed assistance when I was injured. Tom graciously agreed to bring my mail and check in on me when my caretaker had to be gone for a week. My condolences to his family. Tom was an awesome neighbor and will be missed.
