Theodore V. Janis
Theodore Victor “Ted” Janis, 72, of Dale City, Virginia, died Monday, March 1, 2010 in Arlington City, Virginia.
Mr. Janis was born in 1937, in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Peter and Mary Janis. He had worked as an electronics technician for Western Union for 15 years. He was a Navy veteran having served during Vietnam with Naval Intelligence and also with the Army National Guard, retiring as the rank of SFC, E-7.
His first wife, Setsuko Veronika Janis, preceded him in death on July 16, 1985. He married Sherryl Ann Laws Smither on March 11, 1989 in Alexandria, Virginia.
In addition to his wife, he leaves behind his children, Ron Janis and his wife, Kelly of Inwood, WV; Christina Janis Thomas of St. Louis, MO; Karmen Smither of Everett, WA; Laura Rock and her husband, Scott of Nokesville, VA; Theresa Karaca and her husband, Hakan, of Dumfries, VA; Charles Smither and his wife, Annemarie, of Dale City, VA; ten grandchildren; and a brother, Al Janis, of Baden, PA.
A funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, March 4, 2010, at 2:00 P.M. in Mount Castle Funeral Home in Dale City with Pastor Billy Shepard officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 1:00-2:00 PM at the funeral home.
A committal service will be held on Friday March 5, 2010, at 2:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with Military Honors accorded by V.F.W. Post #2123. Interment to follow in Shenandoah Memorial Park, Frederick County, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions may be made to ACTS (Action in Community Through Service) of Prince William County, P.O. Box 74, Dumfries, VA 22026.
