Thelma Rae (Sullivan) Rankin Crawford, 102, of Winchester, Virginia, passed away, Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center in Winchester, Virginia.
Mrs. Crawford was born in 1914 in Mine Run, Virginia, the daughter of the late Theodore and Lora Sullivan. She had previously worked as a silk mill laborer in Orange County, Virginia, as well as being a homemaker for her family. She was a member of the Open Door Baptist Church, loved to garden, and was always taking care of others by putting them before herself.
Surviving are grandchildren, Patricia Pouget-Rankin (Denise Pouget-Rankin), Judy Lynn Callahan, Glenn C. Marr, Donna Rae Sedlack (Rick), JoLynn Marr Heard (Alan), Timothy Dale Marr, John F. Sides, Michael Bailey (Ruth), Jerry Sides (Tina), Tammy Ball, and Kernos D. Ball, Jr. ; two sisters, Lorene Cooper, and Ann Verling; many loving great grandchildren, including, Judson Fox, Jr. and Elizabeth H. Honaker; as well as her great, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many loving friends including her very dear friend and caretaker Lilly “Sissy” McIntosh and her special friend Kathy Meredith.
Mrs. Crawford was preceded in death by her husband, the late James Madison Crawford, as well as her first husband, the late Hiram F. Rankin, Sr.
She was also preceded in death by her four daughters, Evelyn Rankin Malachowski, Virginia F. Rankin, Betty Rankin Sides, and Sheila Crawford Ball; her son, Hiram F. Rankin, Jr., two grandchildren, Kelly Ball Kilburn, and Kenneth F. Rankin; as well as ten brothers and sisters.
All services will be private.
