Thelma Frye Toney, 92, of Winchester, VA, formerly of Charleston, WV passed away Saturday, May 21, 2011.
Thelma was born October 12, 1918, in Boone County, WV. She was the daughter of the late Freeman and Pearl (Bias) Frye. Also preceding her in death are step-mother, Vonnie Tackett Frye, brothers, Ralph, Clarence and Jack Frye and a sister Hazel Frye.
She is survived by her son, Gary Toney and wife, Connie, of South Charleston, WV, daughter, Linda Brown and her husband, James, of Winchester, VA, granddaughter, Mary Elisabeth Brown-Riley and her husband, Robert of Winchester, VA, grandson, Charles “Chuck” Toney of Atlanta, GA and step-granddaughter, Brenda Sparks, of Melbourne, FL and one great-grandson of Winchester, VA. She is also survived by sister, Verl Eggleton of Katy, TX and brothers, Paul Frye of Lenoir, TN and Boyd Frye of Burns, WY.
After raising her family, she worked at the Diamond Department Store, Charleston, WV and the Oxford Shop in Winchester, VA. While able, she was an active member of the Winchester Hospital Auxiliary, member of the Winchester Women’s Chapter of the Moose and a member of the Winchester House Volunteers. In 2003, she was named Volunteer of the Year for the Winchester House.
Thelma was a faithful servant to God. Her laughter and love of life were contagious to all of those around her. She enjoyed music, singing and being surrounded by her family and friends. Her children were blessed to have her as a mother and we will always remember her for the love and special care she gave us for so many years. Her endless love and sacrifice for all of those around her will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the Sunset Memorial Park Chapel, South Charleston, WV. Officiating will be the Rev. Roger Eskins. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park, South Charleston, WV.
