Thelma D. Lawyer, 102, of Winchester, Virginia died, Sunday, October 29, 2017 at her residence.
Thelma was born in 1915 in Yellow Spring, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Carson and Gladys Davis. Ms. Lawyer was an unbelievable seamstress who enjoyed quilting; she was a fabulous baker and cook. Her greatest joy was taking care of her family and friends. Thelma’s words were “keep it simple”. A loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother that is loved and will be missed. She was a member of Second Opequon Presbyterian Church.
Her husband, James C. Lawyer, whom she married on June 14, 1941 in Winchester, Virginia preceded her in death in 1968.
Surviving is a son, James Davis “JD” Lawyer of Winchester, Virginia; granddaughter, Tina Taylor and husband, Russ; three great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren; also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Ms. Lawyer was preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Holleran and her husband, John; Opal Lee and her husband, Bob; and Charlotte Davis; two brothers, G. Forrest Davis and his wife, Willetta; and Frank Davis and his wife, Etta.
Thelma’s family would like to say a very special thank you to all of the caregivers that have taken care of Thelma and have loved her so much over the years.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, from 10 am to 11 am at Omps Funeral Home. Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will follow at 11 am at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with Pastor Alan Morrison officiating. A reception will follow the service at Omps Reception Center, Amherst Chapel. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery at 2 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Thelma may be made to Second Opequon Presbyterian Church, 107 Miller Road, Winchester, Virginia 22602 or a charity of donor’s choice.
