Tammy Lynne Windham, age 65, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus surrounded by her loved ones on January 20, 2025. She was born on March 31, 1959, in Charleston, West Virginia, to the late Lawrence and Janet Fields.
Tammy’s life was characterized by her unwavering passion for caregiving. After graduating from Charleston High School in 1977, she earned her nursing degree from the University of Charleston and began her professional journey at Charleston General Hospital. When she started a family, she embarked on a 20-year venture of in-home daycare to care for her own daughters and other children in the community. Her dedication to nurturing others led her to a fulfilling role as the school nurse at James Wood High School, where she spent many years providing support and care to countless students and staff members.
On July 25, 1981, Tammy married Steven Windham, her high school sweetheart, who would be her husband for 44 years. They had met in band, where she was a majorette. Together, they raised three daughters, Heather, Holly, and Heidi, who survive her. Known affectionately as “Tambo” to those close to her, Tammy was renowned for her kindness, her love for her family and friends, her expertly planned Bunco parties, her heartfelt cards of encouragement, and her vibrant outdoor holiday decorations for all seasons. Her take-charge attitude was admired and appreciated by all who knew her.
A dedicated member of Fellowship Bible Church, Tammy found joy in serving as the Vacation Bible School Snack Leader, where her organizational skills and loving nature shone brightly. She dearly appreciated her connections with her Bunco and Bible Study groups, finding great joy in the laughter and fellowship they provided.
Tammy’s memory will be cherished by her husband, Steven, her daughters Heather, Holly, and Heidi, her extended family, and her wide circle of friends. She leaves behind a legacy of love, care, and community involvement that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 25th at 10am at Fellowship Bible Church in Winchester, Virginia, followed by a memorial service to celebrate Tammy’s life at 11am in the same location.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Fellowship Bible Church.
