Susan E. Senger Bayliss 81 of Winchester, VA originally from Erie, PA, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2022 at The Village at Orchard Ridge.

She is the daughter of the late Bernard and Jean (Cooper) Senger. Susan graduated from the Benedictine Academy, Class of 1958, and moved to San Francisco, CA. She went on to receive her degree from St. Joseph School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse. Then, in 1964, Susan entered active duty in the United States Army. She served as a nurse anesthetist in the Army in Okinawa, Japan, South Korea, Heidelberg, Germany and various military posts in the United States and after 20 years, retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Susan obtained her Bachelors of Science Degree in Hospital and Health Administration in 1986, and moved to Morgan County, VA., where she worked at War Memorial Hospital for over 8 years. Susan served on the Morgan County Board of Health, volunteered at the Morgan County Library, and the hospice of the Eastern Panhandle.

Susan leaves behind two brothers, Michael (Nancy) Senger and Mark Senger both of San Francisco, CA and many cousins and close friends.

She is preceded in death by parents and sister, Mary Senger.

Susan will be interred in Arlington National Cemetery in the fall.

I served in Heidelberg with Susan in the ‘80s, and I loved the days we worked together in surgery. When Susan was at the head of the table, there was never a doubt who was in charge - but it was her tremendous sense of both humor and practicality that I treasured most. Day or middle-of-the-night emergency surgery, her patients were always in safe hands. We may have lost contact, but I will remember her with fondness.

To The Senger Family, Susan and I served together in the military and we kept in touch through the years. I will always remember her beautiful smile and droll sense of humor. She was one of a kind and will be missed by all who knew her.

I loved Susan’s infectious laughter and will miss that. My condolences to Mike and Mark. Sending love and peace. ❤️

We share in your sadness as we remember Susan. She always brought so much joy to the Cooper Reunions. Red sails in the sunset will be bringing her home safely for sure. We are holding your family in our hearts and lifting you in prayer.
