Stuart L. Simpson

Stuart Lester Simpson, age 55, of Gore, Virginia, died Saturday, August 4, 2012, at his home.

Mr. Simpson was born on February 24, 1957, in Winchester, Virginia, the son of Gerald Simpson of Strasburg, Virginia and the late Mary Margaret Kern Simpson. He retired from Verizon after 32 years of service. He served in the United States Navy from 1974 through 1978. He enjoyed golf, hunting, nature, and wildlife, trips to Atlantic City with his wife, Diane, and spending time with family and friends.

He married Diane Lease Darlington on July 4, 1986, in Winchester, Virginia.

In addition to his wife, he is survived at home by his Shih Tzu babies, Hannah and Abbie, and Mother in Law, Gladys Lease. He is survived by his father Gerald and step mother Nancy. He is survived by his sons, Charles “ Lea” Simpson and wife, Liza of Front Royal, Virginia, Christopher Simpson and wife, Pam of Martinsburg, West Virginia, M. Christopher Darlington and wife Tara of Stephens City, Virginia and David Reid and wife, Jodee of Winchester, Virginia and 14 grandchildren. Like a son to him, Clint Burleson of Inwood, West Virginia and a father figure to him, Albert Lee of Clarke County, Virginia. A sister, Scarlett Tisdale of Florida, and sister in law, Kathy Fadely of Middletown, Virginia, who helped care for him during his illness as well as extended family and friends.

Stuart is preceded in death by his mother, Mary, brother, Ashley Simpson, and sister, Ann Simpson Brown.

A funeral service will be conducted on Saturday, August 11, 2012, at 2:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, South Chapel with the Reverend James L. Schuelke officiating. Military honors will be accorded by VFW Post 2123.

I had only been around Stuart a few times in the past 20 years but I believe I came to know him well through my friendship with his wife. I knew him to be loving, supportive and generous with his time and with his heart. I always admired the way he put his whole heart and soul into helping to raise his stepsons - to me, that is the mark of being a true man. He touched many lives and he will be greatly missed. I continue to pray for those he loved and held dear.
