Strother W. Boyd
Strother Woodrow Boyd, “Buddy” or “Fruitcake”, 96, of Stephenson, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 in Rose Hill Health and Rehab Center, Berryville, Virginia.
Mr. Boyd was born in 1922 in Frederick County, Virginia, the son of the late Strother H. and Sarah V. Boyd. He was a World War II veteran of the U. S. Army having served in the European Theatre, achieving the rank of Private 1st Class. He retired from Shockey Company working in general construction. Previous employment included working as a truck mechanic for the Teamsters and after retirement he delivered car parts. He attended Highland Presbyterian Church in his youth. Buddy was a member of the local Teamsters Union. His hobbies included CB radios, tinkering with cars and doing mechanical work.
Buddy married Gladys Irene Higgs on December 27, 1945 in Winchester. She preceded him in death in 2013.
Buddy is survived by his daughters, Barbara Smith and Brenda Fincham (Scott), all of Middletown, Virginia; his son, Douglas Boyd (Mary) of Cresson, Pennsylvania; and four grandchildren, Molly Smith, Jonathan “Jack” Boyd, Sarah Fincham, and David Boyd.
In addition to his parents and wife, Buddy is preceded in death by a sister, Helen Crosby, a brother, Charles Boyd, and a son-in-law, Arthur Smith, Jr.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Friday morning from 9:00 – 10:00 am at Omps, South Chapel with the funeral service to follow at 10:00 am. Entombment will be in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum.
