I am so sorry to see Steve left this earth so young. I knew Steve through sister Gail long ago when my Grandmother lived on Parkway near the Lake family. Heartfelt sympathy to the family.
Bobby Lake left a message on January 26, 2014:
Once again, and as always, memorable days were spent with the offspring and families of Jack and Mallaveene Lake. It was often I yearned for Cousin Steve to come strolling into a room sporting that indelible smile. I wanted Steve to tell me stories that I could never really be sure were true (and would ponder for days)... I yearned to whisper in Steve's ear that the bugler was lip synching... I yearned for the moments to run through some of those remember when moments with him that I will never forget. My heart still hurts. I am lucky my dad was Jack's brother or I may have never had memories of Steve to cherish. I am grateful to have Jack and Mary, Gail and Jay and their wonderful children in my life. Even though our times together are brief and too often surrounded by sadness -- they are always special. Carol, I wish I had some magic words to quiet your pain; do know you have my heartfelt sympathy. I am most thankful to Steve for showing me how important it is to enjoy life; as it truly can be... too short. We lost a great Lake this week... but our memories of Steve will endure...

Steve was my neighbor and a good friend. He had a smile as big as all outdoors and brought sunshine to the lives of others and kept some for himself making him a bright star. I am a better man for having known him and shall miss our talks while we tended our gardens. I shall miss the smell of his cigars as he sat on his patio in the Spring and enjoyed his little spot of paradise. It is a known fact hat the older we get the more losses we have. I have suffered a great loss in my friend ,Steve. My thoughts are with your family.

Steve (Jake), I'll remember all the good times at the Moose with you, Mr. Big, Bucky, & my dad Bones. Thank you for your encouragement to get me out of that long commute to the Pentagon and with the FEMA family! What a small world that your brother is now my boss, and my friend. To all the family...so sorry for your loss.

Dear Mrs. Lake, Gail, and Jack I am very saddened to learn of Steve's passing. I have so many great memories of Steve. Growing up together in Forest Hills, members of the South End VFD, playing on the Farm Boys flag football team, the hard partying at Apple Blossom and working the beer pit together at the pigless roast, all of our good times on Friday and Saturday nights, Steve getting me home from Virginia Beach after I blew my knee out and then sneaking me out of the hospital the night before surgery to go to the Back Room, the Maryland football games with Dr. Davis, going to the Super Bowl and watching Riggins break the big run to beat the Dolphins, and the honor of having Steve serve as an usher when Janet and I were married. Steve was a great friend who always knew how to and enjoyed having a good time. I will always remember the many, many good times we had together. God Bless you Steve and rest in peace buddy.
