Stella Emmaline (Lewis) Shade, 93, of Frederick County, Virginia passed away Wednesday, May 8, 2019, surrounded by her loving family at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center.
Mrs. Shade was born in 1926 in Nain, Virginia, the daughter of the late Clifton and Nena Lewis. In her employment years she worked as a cafeteria aide at Kline Elementary School and James Wood High School. Alongside her husband, Joe, she was co-owner of Shade’s Furniture Store for 20+ years. Her greatest joy was being a loving wife to Joe and mother to Doug and Marsha. Mrs. Shade enjoyed quilting and was a member of Women of Grace at Blue Ridge Grace Brethren Church, where she was a longtime member.
Her husband, Joseph Arthur Shade, whom she married on March 31, 1945 in Winchester, Virginia preceded her in death in October 2018.
Surviving is a daughter, Marsha Bowman (Robert, Jr. “Porky”) of Edinburg, Virginia; son, Doug Shade (Susie) of Spout Spring, Virginia; grandchildren, Hannah Gilman (Mike) of Spout Spring, Virginia and R.W. Bowman, III of Edinburg, Virginia; great grandchildren, Kai Smith and Marin Gilman, both of Spout Spring, Virginia; sisters, Betty Wilson and Nancy Grubb, both of Winchester, Virginia; and brother, Don Lewis of Stephens City, Virginia.
Along with her parents and beloved husband, Mrs. Shade was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
A gathering of family and friends will be from 11 am to 12 pm on Tuesday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with a funeral service at 12 pm with Pastor Davey Ermold officiating. A reception will follow the service at Omps Reception Center, Amherst Chapel. Interment will be in Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Cross Junction, Virginia.
