Sophie Marie Slusher Kidwell, 96 of Winchester, VA, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2025, peacefully at her home.

Sophie was born in Manassas, VA on February 14, 1929. Since she was born on Valentine’s Day she was known as the “Heart” of the family. She graduated from Osbourn High School. Sophie was a member of Manassas Baptist Church. She enjoyed reading and playing word games. She also loved sewing and was a fantastic seamstress. Sophie had a love for music and a great sense of humor. She was a devoted wife and mother to her family.

She married Russell “Gene” Eugene Kidwell, Jr. on October 3, 1952, in Manassas and he preceded her in death on February 22, 2018.

Sophie is survived by her daughter, Paula Rae Kidwell, her daughter-in-law, Trish Kidwell and many loving nieces, nephews and extended family.

In addition to her parents and husband, Sophie is preceded in death by her son, Russell “Russ” E. Kidwell, III; sister, Rebecca S. Thompson and her brothers, Melvin, Stewart and Glenn Slusher.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, from 6pm to 7:30pm with a service to be conducted at 7:30pm officiated by Pastor Alan Morrison at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel. A committal service will be on Thursday, August 7, 2025, at 12pm in Stonewall Memory Gardens, 12004 Lee Hwy, Manassas, VA officiated by Pastor Sam Maxwell.
