Shirley Ann Yates “Nanny”, 81, of Winchester, Virginia passed away peacefully Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center.
Ms. Yates was born in 1936 in Wurtland, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Archie C. and Nola Adams. She graduated from Wurtland High School and worked as a bartender and waitress. She was a member of the Eagles and Moose, enjoyed playing bingo and poker, was blessed to have travelled to every state except Hawaii, and a past radio show host in Cincinnati for “Lunch Hour at Dollhouse”. Above all, her greatest passion was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother that will be missed.
Her husband, Raymond P. Yates, whom she married on May 1, 1984 in Flatwoods, Kentucky preceded her in death.
Surviving are children, Richard Dale Crawford (Cecilia), Amy Joan Boggs (Mark), Billy Ray Yates (Nellie), and Alan Reed Crawford (Kyle); grandchildren, Cassandra Ann Fannin (BJ), Adam Scott Lykins (Chrissy), Andrea Nikole Bunch (Troy), Remington Logan Crawford (Megan), Preston Yates, Joshua Derick Boyd (Jessica), and Rachel Ann Cook (TJ); seven great grandchildren; brother, Terry Scott Adams (Martha); brother-in-law, Dr. Glennard French; sisters, Charlotte Holt, Eva Gay Nicely, and Betty Gayhart; and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Along with her parents and beloved husband, Raymond, Ms. Yates was preceded in death by sisters, Jeannette Barker and Dorothy French; brothers, Woody and Ishmael Adams; and grandson, Alexander Barr Lykins.
A Committal Service will be conducted at 12:00 pm on Friday at Culpeper National Cemetery, Culpeper, Virginia.
