Sara (Sally) Smith Robertson, 88, passed away peacefully at her home on August 13, 2024.
Mrs. Robertson was born on December 14, 1935, daughter of the late Nathaniel and Ruth Whitacre Smith of Gainesboro.
Sally leaves behind her husband of 65 years, James (Hector) Robertson and their children, Leslie Robertson Troxel (husband John), Jimmy Robertson (wife Tracey), and Jason Robertson (wife Debbie). She is also survived by five grandchildren including Cayce Friesenhahn (husband Kyle), Brett Hevener, Kathryn Kelliher (husband Joe), Keith Robertson, and Braden Robertson. Also surviving are a nephew, Zachary Smith and a niece, Mitzi Reynolds.
Sally was preceded in death by a brother, Nathaniel Smith.
In 1954 Sally was in the first graduating class to complete all four years at the then-new James Wood High School. She represented James Wood as a princess in the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival and was president of the student body in her senior year. After graduating from Madison College (now James Madison University) with a B.A. in History and a minor in English she taught high school in Clarke County and the primary grades at Gainesboro Elementary School in Frederick County.
When her children were born she became a full-time homemaker, raising her family. After her children were grown in 1991, Sally was the owner and president of a communications business with her husband, Telephone Wiring. Hector and Sally sold the business in 2010, after 19 years.
Sally enjoyed dancing, music, reading, exercising with her workout group, cheering on her children and grandchildren, and in her later years having breakfasts of bagels and coffee with friends and family at Panera Bread. A lady of Christian faith, she also enjoyed serving Wesley Church.
A Celebration of Life for Sally will be held at 9:30 am on Wednesday, August 21, at Wesley Church, 527 Van Fossen St., Winchester. Pastor Marc Roberson will officiate. A reception will follow at the church. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Sally’s honor can be sent to Wesley Church.
The family sends its sincerest appreciation to Amanda and Cathy for their love and support.
