Samuel Fulton Gilliland, 87 of Winchester, VA, passed away on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at his home.
Sam was born in 1937 in Gordonsville, VA, the son of the late Archibald and Annie Gilliland. He was a high school graduate and attended Baltimore Junior College. Sam served our country in the Unted States Navy as a Private/Airman. He retired in 1997 as a Claims Adjuster for Hartford Insurance Company. Sam attended First Baptist Church of Winchester where he was a member of the Singing Seniors and loved going on church outings called “The Ageless Adventures”. He was a devoted husband and father who was a quiet and simple man. Exercise was very important to Sam who enjoyed walking and working out at Valley Health Wellness Center. His greatest joy was watching the Baltimore Ravens play.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen whom he married on April 1, 2003, daughter, Sonia Teresa Pfeiffer, son, Daniel Lawrence Gilliland, grandchildren, Jason, Ryan and Kaitlyn Pfeiffer and sister, Ruth Jean Slayton.
In addition to his parents, Sam is preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine “Betty” Gilliland and his brother, Phillip Spotswood.
A graveside service will be conducted on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 1:30pm in Shenandoah Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. Rev. Dr. Kristin Adkins Whitesides will officiate. A time of food and fellowship will follow the graveside service at Hoover Hall at First Baptist Church of Winchester.
