Samuel “Sam” E. Plummer, Sr.
Samuel “Sam” Edward Plummer, Sr., 78, of Winchester, Virginia, died Sunday, October 19, 2014, in VA Medical Center, Martinsburg, West Virginia.
Mr. Plummer was born in 1936, in Lewisburg, Tennessee, the son of the late Walter S. and Mary L. Plummer. He was a Veteran having served in the United States Marine Corps, was a college graduate and was employed as a woodworker/cabinet maker and foreman with Henkel Harris, retiring in 2002. Mr. Plummer was a member of Woodbine Assembly of God Church in Clear Brook, Virginia. He enjoyed bowling and making furniture such as adirondack chairs and rocking chairs in his own workshop. Mr. Plummer also enjoyed various other hobbies.
He married Shirley Maye Bayliss in 1958, in Winchester, Virginia.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Debbra Lynn Plummer-Sandy (Timothy) and Trina Shawn Lockhart (Kevin); son, Samuel Edward Plummer Jr.; grandchildren, Michelle Broadstreet, Timothy Sandy, Jr., Hannah Sandy, Christian Woods, Breanna Lockhart and Samuel E. Plummer III; great grandchildren, Carter Sandy and Keelie Broadstreet; sisters, Betty Mercer, Sandra Dugan, Wendy Plummer, Nita Dunlap; and brothers, Pastor Hubert Plummer, Clarence Plummer, James Plummer, Walter Lee Plummer and Charles Plummer.
One sister, Linda Dunlap and two brothers, Dennis Earl Plummer and William Walter Plummer, preceded him in death.
The family will receive friends on Friday evening, from 6:00-8:00 PM, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Saturday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with Reverend Louis Whitford, Reverend Hubert Plummer, Reverend Ralph Smeltzer and Reverend David Palmer officiating. Interment will be in Mount Olive Cemetery, Frederick County, Virginia. Reception in honor of Sam will follow at Woodbine Assembly of God Church – 626 Rest Church Road – Clearbrook, VA 22624.
