Ruth Price Palmer, 96, of Winchester, Virginia passed away Tuesday, January 30, 2018, at her home.
Mrs. Palmer was born in 1922 in Morgan County, Alabama, the daughter of the late William and Alma McGlawn Price; stepdaughter of the late Bascom Braswell. She was a WASP (Women Air Force Service Pilots) and a private pilot in her younger years. Mrs. Palmer earned a Master of Arts degree from University of Alabama and a Bachelor of Science degree from Auburn University and continued her education at the University of Bridgeport, Connecticut earning a Sixth Year Diploma. She was a teacher in Berkeley County, West Virginia, from where she retired. Mrs. Palmer was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority, enjoyed quilting, cooking, and writing poetry. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Mrs. Palmer was a member of Kernstown United Methodist Church.
Her husband, Carroll Willard Palmer, whom she married on July 14, 1945 in Maysville, Kentucky preceded her in death in 2013.
Surviving is a daughter, Lea Palmer Hoak (Charles) of Winchester, Virginia; sons, Randy Palmer of Tool, Texas, Bob Palmer (Roxanne) of Milton, North Carolina, and Tom Palmer (Diana) of Middletown, Virginia; grandchildren, Todd Palmer (Ashley) of Kenner, Louisiana and Dr. Jenna Palmer of Waverly, West Virginia; step-grandchild, Melissa Massenberg (Tracy); two great grandchildren and three step-great grandchildren.
Along with her husband, Mrs. Palmer was preceded in death by a half-sister, Margrett Ann Price.
The family will receive friends from 10 am to 11 am on Saturday at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel with a funeral service to follow at 11 am. A reception will follow the service at Omps Reception Center, Amherst Chapel. Interment will be in Mount Hebron Cemetery, Winchester, Virginia.
