Ruth Marian Patton, 94, of Winchester, Virginia, died Wednesday, March 2, 2016, in Winchester, Virginia. She was born in Scarbro, West Virginia, in 1921, to the late Michael Cleveland and Virginia “Virgie” Myrtle Fitzpatrick.
Growing up in a coal mining area with 7 siblings, Marian was a strong and smart woman. She worked for C&P Telephone Company, eventually Verizon, for many years. She retired as an administrative assistant.
She was married to Charles Edwin Patton who preceded her in death.
Marian loved her Lord, her church and people. She enjoyed the Bible study class every week at Opequon Presbyterian Church where she was a member.
Marian is survived by 2 daughters, Linda Carole and Susan Martin, both of Winchester; 7 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Jane Ann Sisson, 3 grandchildren, 6 sisters and 1 brother.
A memorial service will be held at Opequon Presbyterian Church on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at 1:00 pm with refreshments to follow. Her interment will be next to her beloved husband at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Beckley, West Virginia, at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Opequon Presbyterian Church, 217 Opequon Church Ln, Winchester, VA, 22602 in Marian’s memory.

Ruth M. Patton was our wonderful Nanny, who we loved dearly. She will be missed greatly. She was such a wonderful lady who loved the lord and her family.

I am Marian's oldest niece; she was my mother, Oda's youngest sister. I felt like Marian and I were sisters growing up because she was just a few years older than me. The Fitzpatricks were a close-knit, loving family and Marian did a wonderful job holding us together and keeping us connected. I miss her so much already.

My last memory of my aunt Marian was when I went to visit her three years ago. We had so much fun and it was her Birthday. She gave me a quilt because I said it was pretty. I will cherish it forever. I will miss hearing her voice when we talked on the phone. I love her

Dear Susan and Linda, Through marriage, your beautiful mother Marian became our sister. We loved her. Throughout our years of knowing her she was a faithful, true and loving person. She cared deeply for her family, friends and others. Marian truly lived her faith in Jesus Christ and was an example to us all. We are saddened by her loss, but grateful that her passing was peaceful. We will miss her, but are comforted by the fact she still lives in our memories, and that her life’s journey has taken her to live with Jesus.

Marian was one of a kind, such a great person, a loving person, but most of all she was such a inspiration to all. Everyone who knew her could take something from her lifetime and make their's much better. My condolences to all her family and ours as well. She will be truly missed

I am Ruth M. Patton's niece and wish to send my deepest sympathy to Susan and Linda. Marian was a special aunt and such a lovely woman. There is none like her and she loved her Lord. She will be very much missed.
