Ruth H. Massie

        Ruth Elaine Hicks Massie, 89, of Frederick County, Virginia, died Tuesday, April 23, 2013, in her home.

 

Mrs. Massie was born in 1923, in Winchester, Virginia, the daughter of the late Wickham and Myrtle Hicks.  She was employed in the Proofing Department of the Shenandoah Valley Bank for over 20 years.  Mrs. Massie was a former member of Sunnyside Presbyterian Church.

 

She married John David Massie on October 23, 1944, in Stines Chapel, at Sunnyside.  Mr. Massie preceded her in death on February 4, 1998.

 

Surviving is her son, Thomas P. Massie and wife, Karen, of Frederick County, Virginia; seven grandchildren, Beth Shobe, Paige Williams, Jason Massie, Bessie Massie, Crystal Claycomb, Jessie Massie and Josh Massie; 10 great grandchildren; and her sister, June Carpenter of Winchester.  One sister, Virginia Mason, preceded her in death.

 

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, evening prior to the service, from 6:00-7:00 PM at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel.

 

A memorial service will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Wednesday, at Omps Funeral Home, Amherst Chapel, with Reverend Anthony Wadsworth officiating.  Interment will be private.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 West Cork Street, Suite 405, Winchester, Virginia 22601.

So sorry for your loss. I know this is a very difficult time for the family. Something that has always given me comfort is a scripture at Revelation 21:4, it says, "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” I sincerely hope this brings you some comfort.

So sorry to hear of the loss of Mrs. Massie. I only knew her for a little while but felt like I knew her for a life time. Every time Kevin and I came to Winchester for a visit we made sure that we always went next door to visit with her. She was a very sweet and lovely lady.
